"In the Huygens Cafeteria -- Head Football Coach Griff McGuire; Offensive Line Coach, theoretical physicist and President of the School, Durango Palacio-Earle; Defense Coach and Professor of Computer Science, Kekoa Alualu; Special Teams Coach, Robbie O'Arragan, an Irish engineer, who had played soccer for Republic of Ireland; and Student Assistant Coach, Peggy Abigail Adams, a biology major from Boston -- were gathered around a table. The special this Monday was lasagna; everyone at the table had an attitude as regards the chef's version of lasagna, but Griff never tired of the kitchen's Pastrami Sandwiches. Durango was eating a BLT to which an extra order of bacon had been added. Peggy was eating a mixed greens salad with cashews, pears, and balsamic vinegar dressing. Robbie and Kekoa were eating American cheeseburgers, onion rings, and curly fries.

Durango ate half of his sandwich, then held up a brochure designed to attract student athletes to upper Marin-based Redwood Forest College. "Redwood Forest is noted for its men's and its women's soccer teams," he commented. "But this is the first year they have fielded a D3 football team. Their quarterback is rumored to be the first out gay D3 quarterback on the Pacific Coast. Take a look." Durango opened the catalog to team photos.

"Do not let Will see this photo of their muscular quarterback," Robbie advised.

"Tomorrow afternoon, while Kekoa reviews defense with the entire team, I'm meeting the Redwood Forest coach for film exchange at Greens in Fort Mason," Griff said.

"Greens?" Durango grimaced.

arrow "It was his choice, but it works for me because I'm picking up Caydance when her class gets out of school at four. We've decided to watch the third game of the World Series in the coach's cottage." Usually, they spent Tuesday night eating out in San Francisco, but given the likelihood of crowds of fans, they had decided to watch the game at Huygens -- on the large TV, that Griff had just purchased.
