The order of 1. food 2. sex 3. game film was usual when Griff was Graduate Assistant Coach at Stanford, but Caydance had learned that this order was different for head coaches whose team decisively won (or in a surprising number of other circumstances). But because Huygens videographer Oklahoma-bred Sally Highpine filmed what was happening in the stands, Caydance wanted to view Sally's halftime footage. And so, while the Lodi band played in the background, they saw how Gerry Sun's Mother and Father, who came all the way from a Los Angeles suburb, were -- with a lunch of home-cooked Chinese food -- celebrating their son's evasion of Buster and Buck in a run that advanced the score to Huygens 24 Lodi 0. Gerry's Mother poured tea. Gerry's Father replayed their son's exploits with gestures and spoken narrative.
River's Mother and Father had recovered from the night before's kitchen-based family warfare, and, with their arms around each other, were finishing a bottle of imported retsina.
Caydance appeared between two men. On one side, in his class notebook, Professor McGuire silently deconstructed another troublesome formula. On the other side, Professor Bond explained past plays. "Take a look at the Lodi cheerleaders", Caydance remembered saying in defense; soon the camera caught Professor Bond eyeing the Lodi cheerleaders with interest.
"I should probably erase that scene," Griff said to Caydance. "Personally, I only have eyes for you", he added. Diplomatically. Caydance reached over and began to unbutton his shirt. "Let's watch only the second half highlights", Griff suggested.
In the third quarter, they watched River throw a long pass to The Baron, who -- heavily guarded by swarming Lodi Defense -- spectacularly caught the ball in the endzone. In the Fourth Quarter, they watched Damian move from Defense to Offense, where, as Quarterback, he pancaked Buster after accidentally throwing him a pass. The pass that Buck thought he had intercepted resulted in a similar occurrence.
In the closing seconds of the game, Will kicked a lofty 50 yard field goal. Final Score: Huygens 41 - Lodi 14.
