Wearing white tops and flowing skirts -- blue, red, pink, purple, or yellow – family and friends walked Edelira down the aisle. In the Church light, her dress was white with shimmery shades of pink; it billowed around her like a cloud as she moved to the altar where JuanJose stood, movie star handsome in a white shirt. The ceremony flowed into the reception; there were three Little Havana bands. Food. Laughter. The traditional making of noise. As if the wedding was a song, we danced all night.
In the time from Fall 1986 and his last day as Football Graduate Assistant Coach, Griff remembered the day in October 1987 when Stanford beat Washington State 44-7. He also remembered the October 15, 1988 home game with Arizona State. It began when ASU put the first 3 points on the score board with a 49-yard field goal.
"Little did the Sun Devils know that would be the only points they could celebrate all day" were the words that Chris Crader wrote in the Stanford Daily. Five interceptions later, the final score was Stanford 24 - ASU 3. Griff wasn't sure that there would be another game this satisfying, so that evening he proposed to Caydance.
He had purchased the ring a while ago, but proposing after a loss was not a good idea.
