The goal --of revealing the artist, who had created the music box -- was submerged when she began deconstructing the images on its base. If there was a coded message in the imagery, it should be unraveled, but finding the artist who created that narrative was also important.
The artists who contributed work to her school's annual Artists' Valentines exhibition were mailed invitations. It was customary for the faculty to be invited and in response to donate small works. Additionally, alumni and distinguished local artists were invited.
But, from the school’s records, it now appeared that "Christine Pizan" had not been invited. If there had been a lapse in the process, Caydance did not want to call attention to this. It was also possible that -- in the way Tom Marioni created work and labeled it as by the fictional "Alan Fish" -- the creator of the music box was invited under his or her real name.
