Where is Jack? was a common O’Brien family question. A postcard with an image of Denali National Park (a wilderness in Alaska), did not mean that was where he was or that he planned to be there. That his job as International rep for O'Brien's Sporting goods was a cover for his work with a mysterious Government espionage agency was now known by his family. But, what agency no one was at liberty to disclose; several agency identity cards were at Jack's disposal.

In addition to his cover job as the O'Brien liaison with international sport, Jack was interested in fast cars; his French wife, Giselle; and playing soccer (fullback) with Giselle's brother's Amateur Club.

The friction -- that began years ago when rather than football, Jack chose to go to Penn State to play soccer under Walter Bahr -- still lingered between Caydance's Brother and their Father. But although Griff did not follow soccer, between Griff and Jack there were several connections. 1. Jack had played soccer with Raiders Kicker Chris Bahr, 2. Usually when Jack came to visit, he arrived with several bottles of French Champagne.

Thursday afternoon , September 14, 1989, Jack arrived at his sister's studio. The news that he needed to relay in person was that Mackie Alarie (alias Major Knox), the man who had attacked Caydance at the 1986 Cal-Stanford Big Game, had escaped from prison.
