Midnight. This week's cover story was nowhere near ready to go. Her wastebasket was full of discarded words, and Abigail had not yet responded to Harvey's telephone message, the message with the invitation to join him Friday night at a motel in the Sacramento Valley, and then accompany him to the first away game where their daughter would be Student Assistant Coach: The Huygens IC Chips vs the Sacramento Valley Harriers. "No one will recognize you in the Sac Valley stands. Hell, I don't think anyone will recognize me in the Sac Valley stands."

The invitation was tempting. Football coaching opportunities for women were rare. While Peggy broke this barrier, Harvey was spending time with their daughter. There was no way Abigail could listen to or watch the Huygens games, and it would be weeks before Harvey returned from California.

But Abigail was worried about where sitting in the Sacramento Valley stands with Harvey would lead. Now that he was retired, she suspected that he wanted a house in the suburbs -- with two more children, a dog, and a driveway in which to park his 1989 F150 XLT Lariat 4X4 Ford truck.

Furthermore, it was time, Peggy had suggested, that Abigail use Harvey's real name. It was not Harvey.
