"My favorite plays were when we gave Will the chance to kick a 65 yard field goal, and he did it with cheers heard throughout the stadium -- including gay musicians in the Pacific Ocean stands. And then there was the 60 yard 'Hail Mary' pass with which River Angelos connected with DeJuan Achebe in the end zone. It wasn't precisely a Hail Mary because it was only the second down, and we were already a fair amount ahead. But in the stands, cheers were heard from enthusiastic contingents of Nigerian musicians and Bay Area Greek restaurant owners.“
Griff had only begun, Caydance realized. "And every run that Gerry Sun made," he continued "was the first time his San Francisco relatives in the stands had seen an Asian running back that good. The game wasn't as much fun for our Defense because Durango crossed off quarterback sacks from the game plan. But Darnell and Noah put on a good show of theatrically terrifying the Offense."
"Mira thinks you should have allowed Pacific Ocean more than one touchdown and two field goals," Caydance observed. It was the first away game that either Mira or Caydance had attended (not counting The Big Game when Griff was Graduate Assistant Coach at Stanford). In Durango's Chevy Corvette, they had driven in style to the not distant Pacific Ocean game, while the men went in buses with the team.
"There are limits to what I can ask from our Cornerback and our Safety," Griff responded. "Asking Terrell and Eddy-Gabe not to tackle opposing running backs and wide receivers would be unthinkable."
