When for the first possession of the game, the Huygens team took the Sac Valley field on Saturday, September 16, 1989, the Offensive Linemen were united in their memories of the barbeque which took place on President's yard Thursday evening after practice.

Never before had anyone offered the O-line such succulent barbequed ribs and chicken, such enormous mounds of mashed garlic potatoes, buckets of roast corn, immense bowls of potato chips and extraordinary selection of condiments. Their volunteer server was Peggy's father, a legendary Steelers Offensive Lineman.

Present at that feast were also these Linebackers: Left Tackle Jamaar Kahlil Purcell, from Montclair, NJ; Left Guard Leonidas Joaquin Rodriguez, from Miami; Right Tackle Kyrone Arnet Berryman, from the Jersey Shore; Right Guard Kamaha’o Mahelona, from Manoa, Hawaii – as well as Tight End Caesar Jose Ortega, from Bakersfield California; and the Center: "Big Dog", from Salt Lake City.

In the midst of dedicated eating, no one recognized Peggy's Father until when AKA Harvey was adding more garlic mashed potatoes to his plate, Jamaar noticed that the man putting potatoes on his plate was wearing a Steeler's Jersey and two Super Bowl rings. "Thank you for the potatoes. You have at least two more rings," Jamaar observed. "Can I see them?"

"I gave one to your student coach, my daughter Peggy, and one to my wife.".

Preparing for their first road trip, tense apprehension pervaded this team of young men who had never before played away together; this barbeque changed the dynamic. As they took the field together, they waved at Peggy's Father, who was sitting in the stands. More barbeque had been promised for the following week.
