Diablo Mt 27
Huygens 26
The game made the San Francisco Chronicle Sports page.
In the second part of the headline -- following "Led by NFL prospect Oluwa Jones, Diablo Mountain Wolves Unbeatable" -- were the words "O'Arragan drills four field goals to keep Huygens in contention". With a photograph of Will at the moment of ball and shoe contact, Huygens Tech was in the news.
Wolves Quarterback Oluwa Jones was awarded a paragraph that emphasized his superb command of the field, and the game long rhythm between Jones and Wide Receiver Sergio Basilio Rosario. Citing how Doug Williams led Washington's dominance of Super Bowl XXII, The Chronicle predicted that Jones would soon increase the number of Black Quarterbacks in the NFL.
On a day when Stanford lost to San Jose State, and UCLA beat Cal 24-6, the first reporter to attend a Huygens home game was accorded substantial space that included a nod to Huygens Freshman Quarterback River Angelos' agility amidst terrifying blitzes led by the mountain-size tackle known as "Big Tray-Joe". Also covered was how, led by Math and Computer Science students Right Defensive Tackle Darnell Terrell Medina and Left Defensive Tackle Noah Bailey Jones, Huygens held the Wolves to only three touchdowns; how Huygens running back Gerry Sun deftly carried the ball across the Goal line to score Huygens first touchdown; how Huygen's second touchdown was scored by River's field-long pass to Cupertino transfer DeJuan Marlon Achebe. Next to a photo of Wolves Wide Receiver Rosario in action was a photo of Achebe's incredible Fourth Quarter leaping catch.
Coach Larry was quoted as saying that the Wolves were unbeatable. Identified as "Former Oakland Raiders Wide Receiver", Huygens Coach Griff McGuire was quoted as saying. "The men on this first football team fielded by Huygens Tech showed that we are contenders."
