Adriana Guillen Santalla: Genderlust

Enter the world of gender and explore all the possible combinations of gender identity. From the binary to non-binary, allow these 3D shapes to guide you to your chosen path. As you maneuver the sliders make new shapes, by connecting and overlappint the three objects on the screen. As the shapes move across the screen from left to right, follow the audio that tells you just how much of one or all the genders you feel.

Using the sliders to identify each level of a gender you feel, the audio and shapes pan along with the movement of the sliders. Going from left being 0 and right being 1, you can identify fully (1) with a gender or none at all (0). Perhaps you feel in between and like you can be nonbinary but masculine-presenting or feminine-presenting, in which case you might want to move several sliders to identify with how you feel. The instructions are:

I'm exploring my inner struggles with my femininity versus masculinity... Ideally, I would love if all of this were projected into a room like CAVE and have the background full of pronouns wrapping around the room while the shapes move freely under the control of the audience. In the future, I think I would like to add a text box where the user gets to type in how they feel about their identity and have it record instantly and float around the projection like the shapes.
