Women Artists in Cyberspace
Spring 2021
JiaJia Bao
"With 'I' as the protagonist, this story tells.of a girl from Suzhou, China, searching for herself and trying to find answers under the conflict between Western culture and Asian culture. In this short film, music and irregular movements are used to show the emotions and struggles of 'I'. As I see this country, the world is hurting Asian women more and more. My sadness and confusion have also increased. However, I am still hoping that the world will change; that Asian women will be treated in a more fair and respected way."

a hanging installation of porcelain sculptures
"It's combined of translucent porcelain, LED lights, fish wire, metal, and plastic fibers. Altogether 24 casting porcelain dolls in this piece. Each pair has a different interaction and story in it....I really want to present my work in a more delicate way to show the fragility of the relationship."
Shuang Guo
lantern
"...To me, in this project, it is the pressure from the traditional culture to women...I light this lantern on the rooftop, watch the sunrise, and see the light going weak under the contrast of daylight, and the candlelight is so weak under the morning wind. ".
Melissa Harris
ink, gouache, and oil stick on watercolor paper
"I want to partially expand on the ideas of anonymity. I want to investigate the feeling of isolation we experience as individual members of societies consisting of millions and billions of people..."
Hannah Marie Jeffries
"...I plan to create my paintings very opaque and full of color primarily complimentary colors and flesh tones. I want to be able to embrace my body and overcome my barriers of acceptance within
my appearance...I would like to shift some of the imagery within the figure. I plan to use some of the colors within the background and document it each time something has disappeared. Primarily, just blending the foreground with that of the background. "
Loken Loken
inside a wave (video/projection)
"...I imagine a dark watery setting...I was thinking of creating a dress out of white fabric...and turning it into a dress with lots of 'waves' and drapes and then checking out a projector from the media center and projecting videos of water and waves onto the dress and the wall behind the dress and model...
I am hoping to explore projection mapping in the video editing stage and bring to life my inside a wave idea with more ocean imagery and water imagery. "
Sophia Jane Lucas

#404
"....404 will appear when we open a wrong page...
I want to respond to those people on social media who make comments that girls are sexually assaulted because they wear provocative and revealing clothes...The shadow under the dress also is a part of the collage...Shadow is the psychological trauma of girls who have experienced sexual harassment."
Keun Mok Park
"I always wanted to see or imagine future games where humans using VR and camera will have to physically move to control the games...I will draw and paint with airbrush from my imagination of what my VR world will look like. I was thinking of making our school Museum AIC as my main object in this painting..."
Riley Pruitt
vlog journey...to my future self
"...there are two ways for me to drive home from work, one way is a highway with cornfields on either side and the other way is a gorgeous stretch of winding road wich follows a river."
Text from the vblog:
".I don't know when you'll find this...I just know we can take it and other people don't seem to know this....that we have this hidden confidence that we know we'll be ok ...this year has proved that ...the unknown is not something to fear but something to be celebrated...."
Alex Sun
fabrics and clothing for DJs
"It is very difficult to transform sound into visual art, especially into clothing. It is more necessary to think about music, especially the embodiment of electronic music in clothing. ...female DJs seemed to be a great inspiration of electronic music-fashion . And often the music becomes more rhythmic and resonant under their shape....the addition of women makes the club's stage clothes no longer boring, and more fresh fashion elements pour into the club's most shining point."
Qiao Wang
photo book
"Some texts will be added, but photos are the main part, and I want my photos to appeal to the story:
"You had a dream, that there is a spider chewing your body. When you woke up, you went out to buy something to eat..."

Photo-based electronic manuscript
"Girls are always associated with love and romance. In this project, I want to take 'Be Romantic or Die for It' as the theme to depict an extreme situation of women in love...Romance should not be the whole of life, women's life should not only be love."
