The letter in Caydance's San Francisco studio mailbox was from an unknown Susanna. "Kendrick MacGillivray", Susanna began, "did not give you my name and contact information because he did not know where to find me, and he was not sure that I wanted to talk about Ted Treharne, but Kendrick remembered my family name, that we grew Zinfandel grapes, and that we had a small winery in the Gold County. My family's winery still exists. I am still there, and I was easy to find. You are, he told me, looking for information about Ted."

Caydance, set aside the slide viewer and slides for Tuesday's class. "I met Ted at Cal when I was studying Agriculture Economics at Giannini Hall, and up the hill he was studying art," she read. "Soon, his Grandfather was buying wine for his hotel from my family. I saw Ted at Christmas 1941 when I stayed at his Grandfather's hotel. Then, before he left in 1942, he came to my family's winery to say goodbye. I remember looking out my window when Ted drove up in his Grandfather's blue Plymouth -- and the day when he drove away. It has been many years now, yet I still dream that someday Ted will return.
