"Football Begins With a 27- 13 Victory; Marv Sun Joins Brother Gerry in the First Known NCAA Occurrence of Two Chinese Running Backs". The story -- it was the Huygens Freshman sports writer’s first byline -- made the front page of the fledgling campus newspaper. It lay on Coach McGuire's desk on Monday morning. Splashed across the page were photographs of River launching a deep pass; Dejuan's spectacular Third Quarter slant pass catch; and Damian's back, while under him lay a Sac Valley tackle. That the campus newspaper Editor was Chinese probably accounted for the subheading.

"The First Quarter", the story began, "was distinguished by Quarterback River Angelos' command of the field; DeJuan Achebe's acrobatic catch and run; Tight End, Caesar Ortega's long race to the red zone; Gerry Sun's emergence in the end zone; and a 52 yard field goal by Dublin Ireland transfer student Will O'Arragan.

"At the beginning of the Second Quarter, there were gasps from the Huygens stands when River's distracted pass to Casey Murphy, Sophomore Wide Receiver from West Virginia, was intercepted by Sac Valley Defensive End Elijah-Doug Washington. Touchdown Sac Valley. Coach McGuire put fan favorite Damian Jefferson Tyler into the Offensive Line. Time in the pocket was acquired. River passed to DeJuan. First and 10 at midfield. Coach McGuire called a series of running plays. Sac Valley Defense was confused by the appearance of two Chinese Running Backs. Huygens was in the red zone. In the end zone, Baroni Nicoli Fiore (aka "The Baron") caught a well-aimed forward vertical pass. Huygens 17 - Sac Valley 7."

Griff turned to the page, where the story -- headed by a photo: "Former Raiders Wide Receiver, Head Coach Griff McGuire, shown with School President and Offensive Line Coach, Durango Palacio-Earle" – was continued. Skimming -- though Sac Valley's second touchdown drive and missed field goal; DeJuan's Third Quarter slant pass catch; an O-Line vs D-Line battle (penalties on both sides); another Huygens touchdown, Will's second field goal; and Darnell and Noah's concluding consecutive sacks -- Griff reached his favorite part:

"It was a good game and a good way to start the season.“ said Coach McGuire.
