Saturday September, 1990. It was a clear, calm, sunny day, temperature in the mid 50s. Among tall redwood trees, the glittering gold-hued Humboldt stadium gleamed like a treasure set in the dark majestic forest.
The Humboldt stands were capacity full. Ony a few Huygens fans had made the six hour journey, but as the IC Chips gathered in the back of the guest team tunnel, wearing a blue and grey beautifully-tailored tweed jacket open to a silvery henley sweater, Will's boyfriend Luke was standing by the opposition goal posts, watching -- as their band played a familiar fight song -- big men emerge from the Humboldt tunnel, led by quarterback and Captain, Jed Beau Jackson
From Information Technology students in a class taught by a Visiting Lecturer, the Huygens band had acquired two new members and two new instruments: a bass guitar and snare drums.
Out of the guest tunnel, Huygens Quarterback and Team Captain River Angelos, followed by the entire team, emerged running to the semi-practiced LA hardcore punk sound of "Wild in the Streets".
Humboldt won the toss and elected to receive.
