It was about 3 hours beween Uncle Henri's winery and the Boulangerie in Rheims now owned by Ted Treharne ( aka François). Jack and Nico did not get an early start thanks to the cognac that Yvonne-Marie served with breakfast. Since Nico was driving, and he had French ideas about speed limits, they would probably be in Rheims in time for lunch.
"Our unannouced meeting with Ted would have been easier if Jolie had been had been willing to give us more information about Ted's current life," Jack said to Nico.
"Obviously, her decision to marry Guy meant that subsequent communication with François was somehat curtailed," Nico responded, "but we don't know if he is married, and we don't know if he has French children. We do know that Ted regained his memory about 20 years ago, and now we know that the painting of Utah Beach was probably created around that time. We know that subsequently Ted went home, hung the painting in the Studio/Workshop; discovered that his sweetheart Susanna was married -- and that his grandfather was dead."
"But unless he contacted his father," Jack remarked, "he probably did not know that he had inherited the Hotel California Trail. He probably did not know when Susanna's husband died. And he did not know that he had fathered a child when he and Susanna said goodbye in 1942."
Nico and Jack reached the outskirts of Rheims at lunch time. "This is going to be a difficult meeting", Nico remarked. "Let's have lunch first."
